Important Business Roundtable Focuses on Education and Workforce Training

The Chamber is pleased to be co-hosting an important roundtable event on Tuesday, May 7th at the Eastern Gateway Community College Pugliese Center from 8 to 10 a.m.

Eastern Gateway Community College ‘s Tech Prep director, Melanie DiCarlo, spearheaded the event in recognition of Ohio’s “In-Demand Jobs Week,” a statewide celebration of industry, in-demand jobs, workforce training and skill development. This year’s dates are May 6th through 10th. Also involved in the event is Franciscan University of Steubenville , the local Ohio Means Jobs office and the Jefferson County Educational Service Center . The purpose of this event is to bring together educators and businesses in order to encourage a better, stronger relationship between the two that will lead to strategies and programming, county-wide that provide quality employees for existing and new businesses. All local businesses are encouraged to attend.

“I’m excited to be a part of this event, chamber president, Tricia Maple commented. “And it ties in perfectly with what the chamber is trying to make one of its top priorities – working to ensure that Jefferson County is able to provide quality skilled employees for our existing businesses and for prospective businesses. It’s a huge part of ensuring that we are as business friendly as possible.”

The chamber has also recently created an Education & Workforce Training Committee and in May will kick off a comprehensive “Business Friendly” project which will be begin with a county-wide survey of existing businesses and others involved in new business development.
