Headshot Happy Hour

A new Chamber member program is launched –

Having a high quality, current head shot is a necessity in business. Regardless of your title or what it is you’re selling, the first impression that a prospective customer or client gets is often based on an image of you.  Whether it’s by way of viewing your company website, seeing your picture in the local newspaper, picking up one of your business cards or any other marketing medium that has your photograph on it, your picture can make or break that first impression.  Many small business owners make the mistake of using an old, unprofessional or shabbily edited photo for business purposes and put off getting the proper one taken.

Three Chamber member photographers have stepped up to the plate to help the Chamber launch a new program called, “Head Shot Happy Hour.” The goal is to make it easy, affordable and convenient for our members to get a great head shot taken for themselves, their staff, their board members or their sales team.  Here’s how it works: On three Thursdays in the coming weeks, the photographers will set up shop in the Chamber offices from 3 to 6 p.m.  You may make an appointment with any one you wish by calling the Chamber offices. Bookings are first-come, first-served so don’t delay.  You may also check out each of their websites by clicking on the links below.  The price is just $50 per person. You will pay that evening and will be provided with your photos on a disc or by way of a link.   Each photographer is a little different so feel free to contact them with questions. In addition, the Chamber will provide light refreshments for you to enjoy while you wait or after your photo session is over.

Why not check this one off of your “to do” list once and for all and get a quality, professional head shot that you can use for all of your promotional and advertising needs?  Hope to see you at thefirst (to be annual), “Head Shot Happy Hour.”  And thank you again to our participating photographers:

2016 Annual Golf Classic Just Around The Corner

It’s an event that dates back at least 30 years.  It’s one of the Chamber’s biggest fundraisers and one of most well-attended events.  The Annual Golf Classic is a tradition that brings together golfers, volunteers, staff and Chamber members and their employees each spring for a day of food, drink and friendly competition.
The golf outing committee meets early in the year and often to ensure that this event runs smoothly and never gets stale.  John Cucarese, from New York Life, will serve as event chair once again this year and many of our long-time sponsors are already on board.  Last year, over 175 were in attendance including those who played, volunteered, came for dinner and prizes or just stopped by to say hello.  The date for this year’s outing is Tuesday, May 10th and we’ll once again be at the Steubenville Country Club.  Registration begins at 8:30 with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
If you’ve never been involved with this event, this is the year to change that.  There are creative and fun sponsorships available and volunteer opportunities that allow you and your employees to engage with fellow members and network with the local business community.  If you’re a golfer, you’ll enjoy a beautiful and challenging course and for non-golfers, there’s plenty to enjoy as well.  All-day beverages, steak dinner with all the trimmings and lots of great prizes.  Watch your mail, email and the Chamber website as details are confirmed.
Eager to register your team?  Click on the golf outing in the scrolling events on the right of our home page or here to download a printable registration form.

Chamber Adds Promotional & Informational Programs

First and foremost, Chamber membership is a tool for your business or organization. Members utilize our different programs and services depending on their business type, size, location and issues that are facing them on a day-to-day basis.  A big challenge for all chambers of commerce is to stay relevant and have an ongoing, ever-changing “list” of benefits that members may take advantage of.  From networking and promotional opportunities to money-saving and educational programs, the goal is to help our businesses stay open, grow and remain in our area.

To that end, the Chamber is excited to introduce two new (free) promotional programs as well an informational event that members may want to take advantage of.  First, members are now able to post a special offer or discount called a, “Hot Deal” on the Chamber website that is able to be seen not only by fellow members, but by all visitors to the Chamber website.  To view current specials, click on, “Membership Directory” on the home page and then, “Hot Deals.”  To post a special, members simply log in to their member account through the Chamber site and add the details of their offer. There is no charge for this program.  And not only is the offer on the Chamber site, but it also posts to the Chamber Facebook page and its Twitter feed, both of which are reaching more and more people each week.  Next, Chamber members will be able to feature their brochures, coupons and postcards on a new kiosk in the J.C. Williams Center on Franciscan University’s Steubenville campus.  This busy building serves as the hub of student life and houses the campus bookstore, a coffee shop, pub, post office, art gallery and the student-life offices as well as having ample hangout space. In addition, the lounge spaces have provisions to accommodate bands, live performances, dances and a variety of other social events.  It’s a great way to promote your local business to the students and faculty of the university.  To participate, mail or drop off 25 copies of what you would like to display. You will be contacted when more is needed.

Tomorrow, February 25th, the Chamber will be hosting its first, “Brownbag Lunch” session at the Chamber offices beginning at noon. These informational events allow members to be a part of an informational round-table on a different topic each month.  The format is simple and informal. Tomorrow’s topic is, “Promoting Your Business Through Trip Advisor & Yelp” and will be led by Brad Degenkolb, Sales Manager at the Weirton Holiday Inn.  Attendees bring their own lunch – drinks provided by the Chamber.  The cost is $5 per person for Chamber members and $15 for non-members. No RSVP is necessary. The program runs from noon until 1:00 but you may come at 11:30 to eat or network.  The Chamber is located at 630 Market Street in downtown Steubenville. Please use the rear entrance. And watch your mail for information on the March “Brownbag” topic – always the last Thursday of the month.
